For years doctors, health workers and dermatologists
have been saying that there is no connection between food and acne.
It is true that no one single food does cause acne, but new research
is demonstrating a clear link the condition of our skin, and the food
choices that we make. Our skin is the largest of our organs and for
it to be clear, healthy and glowing; we need to eat the right foods.
Surprise, surprise the foods we need to maintain optimum general
health are the same foods that we need to have clear skin. The white
foods, which are highly processed packaged food, white sugar, white
bread, white pasta, are just empty calories. Worse still, they often
contain additives that our body can well do without ingesting. Our
skin, health and weight would improve if we added more whole grains
to our diet. Ideal forms are brown bread with wholegrain cereals added,
brown high fibre pastas.
Add fruits and vegetables to our daily diet. The American food pyramid
recommends three to five portions of vegetables a day, and the dark
green vegetables are the most important. They also recommend two or
three pieces of fruit a day. However, despite the fact that the American
health authorities have updated and increased the amount of fruit
and vegetables we need to eat to remain healthy, they are aware that
eleven portions of fruit and vegetables a day are nearer the correct
amount. The American health authorities accept that many of their
population is clinically obese and even small steps in the right direction
are better than no steps at all. In other words, a small number of
people may feel that between five and seven portions of fruit and
vegetables, a day is attainable, but eleven is not, so they take the
line of least resistance.
Small changes in our daily diets are all that it takes to reverse
the trend in all Western societies to gain weight on a gradual basis.
Nutrient dense foods will naturally limit our intake of sodium, transfats,
sugar and alcohol. The food that we consume should be as natural as
we can make it. Despite the fact that we are well aware that transfats
are bad for our health they are routine additives in cakes, biscuits,
candies, toffees and other processed food.
Healthy glowing skin is attainable for all of us and by making these
small changes in a diet then your body has a chance to cleanse and
detoxify itself; you will lose weight and most people experience clearer
skin in the process. What have you got to lose but your spots and
a few pounds!
